Being out of the medical field for over a year will really take you out of the game.  In the medical field so much happens from year to year that if you are out more than a year a special course is mandatory.  I knew a girl who was out of the field for 1 day over a year and was made to take an rn refresher course.  Had she known this rule I am sure that she would have went back to work a few days earlier.  However, I am sure that it would have been a suggestion either way.
