Goutam Shaw and his wife Geeta Chowdhury of Ottawa are about to embark on building one of the most eco-friendly houses in the region. Plans have been drawn up and ready to go for months, but are still awaiting approval from the City of Ottawa.

"Both my wife Geeta and I wanted to build a house that is eco-friendly. That’s what put us on a path of research."

Durisol is the company putting together Mr. Shaw’s custom-built walls made of the lightweight, porous and durable materials that are non-toxic and deter mould growth, called insulated concrete forms (ICF).

 Once the plans have been approved by the City of Ottawa, Mr Shaw suspects building will take approximately 6 months.

Getting the mail can be a chore, and sending a letter pretty boring.

So I’ve always thought, “Why not spice things up a little?” And that’s why I like to get creative with my mailboxes.

He just loves the blow gun, and it has kept him occupied since I bought it for him.

Or, if you would prefer, you could take a leisurely ride on the safari train ride and see some of the animals from a different perspective. While there is always something great to see at Peck’s Wildwood Wildlife Park, they offer something that other parks don’t. You can fish in their trout pond, and you don’t even need a license. You simply pay for what you catch, which they can even clean and bag in ice for you. It’s nice to catch your own dinner while at the park!

I got a new job not long ago, but it was in a different state. While this wouldn’t be a problem for most businessmen, it was for me. You see, I’m a single dad of three kids. My wife passed away a few years ago, and it’s been pretty hard ever sense. Well, this new job offered more flexible hours, and it would place us in a good neighborhood with an excellent school. It was a dream come true, but boy did I need a good Rocklin California moving company. We recently went on vacation, and when we came back, I could smell the stale cigarette leftovers from a week earlier.

First we bought air purifiers. It really does keep the air cleaner, and much to my surprise, I do not have to dust as often!

After this incident, I also cleaned the sofa, and the rest of our furniture to freshen up a bit. Much better.

Putting a pet on a leash has always seemed to me to be cruel and unusual punishment. The pet ends up frustrated at being choked around the neck. If you have a large area building a fence can be impractical from an economic point of view. There may be no other need to have one other than to prohibit the pet from wandering. A wireless pet fence is a much more attractive alternative. Your pet wears a receiver on their collar and when they stray to far from the transmitter they are given a signal that they find irritating. Until they return to the free area the noise continues.

I discovered that there are many choices when it comes to buying a lawnmower. There are push lawnmowers, self propelled lawnmowers and riding lawnmowers. The choice of type and size is completely dependant on how you intend to use the mower. I have a little over half an acre of rolling land that has few obstructions in the grassy area to be avoided. If it was not for the rolling part I probably would have chosen a push mower but I did not want to push a mower up the rolls. With my decision to purchase the self propelled mower I took most of the work out of mowing.

 solar garden lights have been in my garden for many moons now. My father brought them from Woody’s DIY near the airport roundabout and they have been poking up among the plants for years. Those quirky and cheerful little lights always make me smiles as I cut the grass or play croquet. At night, they illuminate my outdoor world and have my neighbors more than a little envious! Naturally, my dog prefers real light, as does my father, but that is hardly of matter now, as the night falls on my already glowing garden. Like the Oreos of the light world, delicious and useful.
