Teen Weight Loss Camp: Popular Misnomers

August 14th, 2008 . by admin

Probably by now, you’ve already heard of weight loss camps for teens – otherwise known popularly as “fat camps,” right? The question is – would you ever consider sending your overweight teenager to one? Undeniably, many parents fear that their child might take their suggestion as a blatant criticism to their physical well-being. Some kids would inevitably think: “I’m fat, and mom and dad are embarrassed of me – that’s why they’re sending me away.” But truth be told, the children who have just gone to weight loss camps love the experience and in turn, the parents are glad of the results.Another reason why some parents are afraid of sending off their kids to some sort of kid’s teen weight loss camp is because of a popular misnomer that these “boot camps” are overloaded with rigorous, even strenuous, exercises and tons of other physical punishments – the truth is they’re not. It’s a regular summer camp, with all the traditional summer-camp activities although the meals served to your kids are healthy and nutritious, and there are some additional classes on nutrition and self-esteem.
