Used Popup campers
January 30th, 2008 . by adminUsed popup campers can be a great bargain. Last year my brother and sister-in-law purchased an 8 year old CampLite popup camper by Damon with a slideout, bathroom facilities, furnace, air conditioner, and a bike rack for $4,000. A new popup camper with comparable amenities would have cost $12,000 to $15,000.
The best of the year to buy a used popup camper is in the fall when people are getting ready to put their camping units in storage. That is when people who didn’t use their campers that year decide it’s time to sell them and get some money for them rather than putting them in storage for another year.
You can almost always get a better deal by buying from a private party then from a dealership but it is definitely a “buyer beware” situation. Before buying make sure everything is in working order, especially the mechanism that raises and lower the camper. Don’t be afraid to ask to raise it and lower it yourself so you can see exactly how well it works.
