There is increasing competition amongst mobile phone network providers to give away free SIM cards.

Historically, network providers charged for pay as you go / pre paid sim cards, but not any longer!

It seems the network providers have finally cottoned onto the fact that giving away a free sim card can be a very effective marketing tool.

The sim cards themselves cost pennies, in fact the postage and administration are sure to cost more than the actual sim.

This means that even if a relatively small percentage of customers actually use the free sims the network providers can still make a profit from the calls made. It also provides them with an opportunity for cross selling.
