Internet protocol address

February 28th, 2008 . by admin

An IP address is a digital address that any electronic devices use in order to identify and communicate with each other on a computer network using the Internet Protocol standard. In other words, any participating network device such as routers, computers, switches, printers, internet fax machines and any other machines that can be put in accordance with the network can have its own IP address that is unique in the whole network. Some IP addresses are unique within the scope of the global internet network. The IP address being unique acts as a locator for one device to find another and interact with it in the given network.. In current practice, an IP address is not always a unique identifier, due to technologies such as dynamic assignment and network address translation.IP addresses are managed and created by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The IANA generally provides larger blocks of address to the internet service provider which in turn more smaller sub blocks to the local internet provider and then to the users.
