Once you pass the notary exam in your state, you can perform many tasks.  One of the most interesting is to be the person who receives mortgage documents from the title office and takes them over to the parties who have to sign them.  You perform your duties simply by ensuring they sign the documents where they should, and you notarize where you should after you have seen their identification proving who they are.  You can make some nice money on the side performing this function for a title company.  They are always in need of good notaries to send out to deliver the documents for signature.
